LEOPARD 58 WINS THE 2013 CONSUMER CHOICE AWARD AT STRICTLY SAIL MIAMI
MIAMI, FL--(Feb 18, 2013) The Leopard 58 is awarded the 2013 Consumer Choice Award Best Boat Over 30’ at the Strictly Sail Miami boat show! The Consumer Choice Award, a brand new distinction developed by the National Marine Manufacturers Association, is not selected by the organization; the winner is instead decided by popular vote. All boat show attendees on the first two days of the Miami show were polled, and asked to select their top choice for five categories. The award is a true testament to the Leopard 58’s appeal within the most discerning class of reviewers: potential owners.
The selection comes as no surprise, however, as the Leopard 58 is the result of 40 years of customer feedback. Designed by Alexander Simonis, built by world-renowned Robertson and Caine, and introduced late in 2012, the 58 follows a long line of award-winning luxury blue water cruising catamarans produced by the South African team.
The 58 boasts an incredibly large flybridge with both a lounge area that provides seating for up to 12 people, and a fully outfitted, state-of-the-art helm station. The flybridge is an example of the exceptional partnering of performance and comfort for which the Leopard line is known, and the new 58 exemplifies this balance in all areas of the boat.
Just like the award-winning Leopard 44 and Leopard 48, the 58 features Leopard’s signature forward cockpit with direct access from either the saloon or the owners’ cabin, depending on which of the interior layout options the owner has selected. The aft cockpit has an expansive open layout with stand-alone tables and chairs that are stored easily in a cockpit locker when preparing for a voyage.
The generous exterior space is mirrored inside, with either a huge saloon with multiple seating areas or a spacious salon and large owners’ cabin, again depending on the layout selected by the buyer. Also impressive are the large in-hull state rooms, available in various configurations, as well as the interior details such as wood trim and cherry wood finishes, the large windows, the comfortable and attractive seating areas, and the state-of-the-art galley.
The 58 boasts a number of impressive technical design features as well, including a hydraulic swim and dinghy storage platform, easy-access engine rooms, and a smart singlehand-ready helm station.
As the worldwide dealer, we're proud to say that over 1,000 Leopard cats have now sailed more than 9 million miles and the world’s largest oceans.

LEOPARD CATAMARANS LAUNCHES THE NEWEST MEMBER OF THE LEOPARD RANGE:
CLEARWATER, FL – Following on the heels of the Leopard 58, Leopard announces another exciting addition to the award winning line of Leopard Catamarans, with the all new Leopard 48! The Leopard 48 (Moorings 4800), built by the award winning builders at Robertson and Caine, follows in the footsteps of the most popular Leopard model to-date, the Leopard 46. What sets the 48 apart is its spacious interior, the large forward cockpit with direct access to the saloon, and an increased amount of outdoor living space. This stunning catamaran recently made its debut at the United States Sailboat Show in Annapolis, Maryland, and was nominated for both SAIL Magazines Best Boats 2013 award, and Cruising World’s 2013 Boat of the Year award.
Keeping in fashion with the entire Leopard line, the Leopard 48 focuses on blue water performance, speed, and luxurious comfortable living spaces. The interior of the Leopard 48 features large wrap around windows with gorgeous panoramic views and an abundance of natural light. Cherry wood laminate finishes and a solid wood trim line the interior of the Leopard 48, providing both beauty and practicality. In addition to this, the modern galley comes equipped with high-end appliances and ample prepping space. This catamaran also boasts a plush interior with plenty of lounge space, making sailing not only fun but also comfortable.
The 48’s intelligent design also comes with a multitude of special features and available upgrades. She features a 3 cabin-3 head and 4 cabin-4 head layout. The three cabin layout includes two cabins in the port hull, leaving the starboard hull entirely dedicated to the owners’ suite, complete with work station and large private washroom.
The Leopard 48 prides itself on its beautiful exterior which exhibits multiple outdoor living spaces. Like the award winning Leopard 44, the Leopard 48 features a large forward cockpit with direct access to the saloon. The forward cockpit offers increased visibility, ventilation, and a significant new approach on adding increased living space in an ergonomic and safe design feature. The Leopard 48 also includes a large aft cockpit with outdoor dining area, and a raised helm station providing excellent panoramic visibility allowing for excellent blue water maneuverability.
Overall, this exciting yacht promises to impress! Her innovative design, increased outdoor living space, and her excellent blue water capabilities make for a very exciting yacht. Leopard Catamarans is thrilled to welcome the Leopard 48 as the newest addition to the award winning line of Leopard Catamarans.
Leopard 39, the latest model from Leopard Catamarans is designed for comfort, functionality and aesthetic purposes.
So comfortable and classy is this modern yacht that many sailors will not hesitate to make it a home, at least for a short while if not permanently. If you love the beauty of living in a boat, then this model will meet and even surpass your expectations.
Its hull is designed to offer high performance and shelf life. It borrows largely from the Leopard 38, but differs in that it has a raised helm station and a more pronounced hardtop. The helm station can be accessed from the cockpit and is covered all round with hard bimini, which ensures maximum protection. The long hardtop provides sufficient shade and offers protection in harsh weather conditions. Sheltered beneath it is the spacious cockpit; which has full seating complete with a dining table. The rear backseats can be adjusted to face the aft or face forward. Because of its large size, the cockpit can be a place for sharing meals with guests or family when on board the yacht. On each side are transom boarding steps. Solar panels are installed on the hardtop to continuously power the onboard batteries.
To board the Leopard 39, transom steps designed like a power-boat are used, making it easy for people of different weight categories to get aboard. Another great factor the designers took into consideration when designing this boat was the ventilation. Wide, opening hatches provide excellent ventilation which ensures that the inside remains fresh and airy; and also keeps the 2x 21 HP diesel engines from overheating. The large and spacious walk-through deck, which opens to the aft swim area, gives you enough room in which to watch the waters and waves. The front windscreens, which are designed in a vertical, forward-facing design, also give a great viewpoint. All the windows are large, providing more panoramic views no matter what part of the yacht you are at.
The Leopard 39 has 2 guest cabins, exquisitely designed and enhanced with beautiful décor. The 2 guest cabins share a head and stall shower, located in the port hull. Each cabin has ample storage and adjustable reading lights. The large starboard hull becomes the luxurious owner’s suite. It features a master suite and private head with big shower stall, marine toilet, vanity unit and a washbasin with mixer tap. There is also a study area with a desk and overhead lighting. All cabins are given a deep cherry wood finish and feature soft over-head lighting. Soft, multi-fiber fabrics are used on various surfaces. When ordering for a Leopard 39, one has the option of changing the interior colors to reflect a more personal taste. There is a range of color options to choose from.
It has a spacious saloon area, with a galley facing the aft and a wide settee that can accommodate a number of people. There is ample storage with facilities such as a refrigerator and freezer, each with insulated drawers and compartments. Entertainment is provided via a sound system and VHF whose controls are inside the companionway doors. They can easily be accessed from the cockpit, helm station and saloon.
All these features combined with the unique Leopard Catamarans high quality, present a high performance boat for a fulfilling cruising experience
South African catamaran builder Robertson and Caine and veteran multihull designers Morrelli & Melvin teamed up once again to produce the new Leopard 44, which is also available for charter as the Sunsail 444. The builder’s longtime role as the supplier of catamarans to both Sunsail and The Moorings means that the build team has extensive owner and charterer feedback when it comes time to launch a new model. The result has been cats that are easy and fun to sail, ruggedly built to avoid downtime when in charter, and relatively affordable
In those respects, the new 44-footer should fit right into the fleet. The most distinguishing feature on this catamaran is the cabin top that extends forward, past the saloon, to shade a forward-facing cockpit located just aft of the trampoline on the bow. While we were motoring north from Miami to Fort Lauderdale one evening last winter after the boat show, this cockpit was the place to be as the sun set. The view was tremendous and the breeze refreshing as we skipped along with a crowd aboard. Two 29-horsepower Yanmar diesels are mounted facing backward, well aft in each hull, with saildrives forward of them; under way, this reduces noise levels in the aft cabins.
Earlier, with the boat under sail, I’d found it simple to maneuver, with all controls, including the halyards, leading back to winches at the raised helm to starboard. There, the skipper sits just about at bimini level under a hard dodger; an overhead port provides a view of the main. In 13 knots of breeze and open-water waves, we made 6.5 knots while sailing closehauled, tacking through about 110 degrees.
One can enjoy sunrise and breakfast around a small table in the forward cockpit, leave the watertight door open as a steady breeze blows through the saloon all day, and then enjoy sunset in the large shaded cockpit astern, with dinner around a table that should seat eight with ease.
Access from the dinghy or when swimming has been simplified via transom platforms that extend slightly past the side hulls, conveniently located handrails, and just a single step leading to the bridgedeck. Once you’re aboard, wide decks make for easy movement fore and aft, and the bimini’s overhangs provide sure handholds.
The boat I tested was a owner’s version, with the accommodations for the captain and mate taking up the entire starboard hull. A queen berth is aft, with a sitting area amidships and a head with separate shower in the bow, behind a watertight bulkhead. To port, double berths with en suite heads are fore and aft, with a child’s berth far forward.
Hulls are constructed using isophthalic gelcoat and vinylester resin to resist osmosis. Balsa coring in the hulls and deck reduces weight and adds strength and stiffness. Hard chines and hulls that flare above the waterline provide both performance and increased interior volume. There’s plenty of the latter—and it’s well appointed, to boot. The doors fore and aft in the saloon, plus opening hatches, let in lots of light and ventilation. The interior decor is a blend of cherry laminates with white panels and light-colored upholstery. The up-style galley—with the storage and kit one would expect for a boat this size—is located aft to port and includes a two-drawer fridge and freezer and Corian counters. An optional generator is located forward, in a cockpit locker.
Overall, there was much to like about this latest offering from Robertson and Caine, and if I were a betting man, I’d wager that the concept of a cockpit forward might just set a trend for tropics-bound cats in the future.
